A living village where tradition, nature, and community converge on the slopes of Mount Rinjani.
Located on the southern slopes of Mount Rinjani, Tetebatu is a rural highland area shaped by volcanic activity. Its mineral-rich andosol soils support productive terraced agriculture, while its cooler temperatures and high humidity sustain secondary forests and biodiversity. These environmental conditions make Tetebatu a distinctive tropical agroecosystem
Ecologically, Tetebatu acts as a transition zone between agricultural land and forest ecosystems connected to Mount Rinjani National Park, forming a complex landscape influenced by both natural processes and human activity. Traditional farming practices reflect principles of sustainability, although many local ecological dynamics, especially those rooted in inherited knowledge remain underdocumented in scientific and digital sources.
For visitors, Tetebatu offers opportunities to study sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and human-environment interactions. Through the lens of Agroecology, Ecology, and Anthropology, the area reveals how volcanic soils, climate, and cultural practices shape a resilient socio-ecological system, making it both a living laboratory and a meaningful travel experience.
I grew up in rural villages, where life moves with the rhythm of the fields and the mountains. My grandfather was a farmer, and many of my earliest memories are of walking beside him through rice paddies, learning quietly from the land, how seasons change, and how simple work can shape a meaningful life.
As I grew older, I found another calling as a teacher at school, someone who enjoys sharing knowledge and learning from others in the classroom. Music has always been part of my days as well, i play and sing for my own joy, simply because it brings warmth to ordinary moments.
My curiosity about the island slowly turned into a passion for exploration. I began as a mountain guide learning, spending long days walking forest trails and climbing ridges, and over time I was trained to become a guide for the Rinjani Geopark.
Today my journey continues in a different but connected way. In my daily life I work as a facilitator for sustainable rural development, helping villages grow through ecotourism and community empowerment, now it has been 10 years. also, guiding travelers in Tetebatu is therefore more than just showing places, it is sharing the living story of the nature, people and its culture.
The experiences we find together may seem simple, walking through rice fields, listening to the sounds of nature, or talking with villagers about their daily life. Yet these moments often carry a quiet meaning that stays with us. I always feel grateful to share these paths. I truly enjoy listening because every person who comes here brings a story, a perspective, and a piece of wisdom that can enrich the journey for me and others here, yet both of us.
Choose the experience that calls you. Sometimes the simplest moments become the most meaningful memories.
