The experience begins with an introduction to local coffee beans grown in the surrounding areas of Lombok. Your host will explain the different types of beans and how villagers traditionally prepare coffee for daily consumption.
You will also learn about the simple blends and flavors commonly enjoyed in village households.
Next, the coffee beans are roasted using traditional methods over a small fire. As the beans slowly change color and release their aroma, your host will explain how roasting influences the flavor and character of the coffee.
The warm smell of freshly roasted beans fills the air, marking an important step in the traditional coffee process.
After roasting, the beans are placed into a traditional wooden mortar known locally as a lesung. Using a wooden pestle, the beans are pounded by hand until they become finely ground.
This traditional method has been used in village kitchens for generations and offers a glimpse into how coffee was prepared long before modern grinders existed.
Once the coffee powder is ready, the final step is brewing. The ground coffee is carefully filtered and prepared into a warm cup of traditional Lombok coffee.
The experience ends with the most enjoyable moment, sitting together and tasting the coffee you helped prepare while learning more about village life and local traditions.
